Japanese Ear Cuffs

Every cuff here is made by hand in Japan and finished nickel-free, so it sits comfortably against skin that reacts to most jewellery. They slip onto the outer edge of the ear and stay there on their own — no piercing, no backs to lose, nothing to heal.

The shapes come from the small workshops we work with in Japan: a single freshwater pearl, a fine chain that drops along the curve of the ear, an arabesque line pressed into thin metal. Each one is finished by hand, so no two catch the light in quite the same way.

Wear one alone on the upper edge of the ear, or beside studs you already own. They read as well on a plain Tuesday as they do with something dressed up, which is rather the point.

Choosing your first ear cuff

A single pearl or stone cuff is the easiest place to start — from a distance it reads as an earring. Chain cuffs sit a little higher and say more. All of ours are adjustable: pinch gently to tighten, ease open to loosen.

Do ear cuffs hurt, or fall off?

Neither, when they fit. An ear cuff rests on the cartilage rather than piercing it, so there is no healing and no soreness. If one feels loose, press it very gently closed; if it feels tight, ease it open a fraction. Shaped to your ear, it stays put through a full day.
